Set design and build for a huge one-night live event
For the WRG ‘Arabian Nights’ trade fair event in the cultural village of Katara, Qatar, six set dressers/designers (including myself) were tasked for two weeks with a team of locals to transform and dress the business, entertainment area and beachfront of Katara.
Based on four themes – VIP, Moon & Stars, Sea, Music & Dance – the areas were dressed as a welcoming entrance to the visiting delegates, who were led to the main promenade where there was, food, live entertainment and a parade of lit animal lanterns.
Thousands of rolls of fabric were draped and hung, thousands of lanterns placed, and details of ribbons, cushions and luxury items were displayed. We created a souk on the beachfront which was then filled with local businesses taking the opportunity to promote their wares to the visiting delegates.
Alongside an extensive programme of live entertainment and street events, dramatic lighting and projection, this was a spectacular spectacle to behold!
